2. Wear the right gear. Shin guards, helmets, mouthguards, properly fitted shoes. It’s not glamorous, but protective equipment exists for a reason. 

3. Increase activity gradually. This is the big one. Going from a sedentary winter straight into intense practice is a recipe for overuse injuries. A gradual ramp-up over two to three weeks gives the body time to adapt. 

4. Stay hydrated and fueled. Dehydration and fatigue make injuries more likely. Water and balanced meals are performance tools, not afterthoughts. 

5. Listen to your body (and your kid’s complaints). Pain is information. “Playing through it” sounds tough, but it often turns a minor issue into a major one.
